FAQs

Where does the name "Tephra" come from?

When scientists pull ice cores from remote areas of the earth, they find layers of "tephra" — dust deposits from volcanic eruptions. These samples can be used to accurately track and date volcanic events from thousands of years ago. Like volcanic events, the calls to our network are ephemeral. As with the layers of volcanic tephra, our network will deposit records of their existence in a way that can be preserved indefinitely.
